Research Project Launch Workshop
mHealth Messaging to Motivate Quitline Use and Quitting (M2Q2)
Research Project entitled “mHealth Messaging to Motivate Quitline Use and Quitting (M2Q2)” is approved by Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technology Association (VUSTA) on February 12th 2018. This project is a cooperative program between University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMASS); the Quitline, Respiratory Center, Bach Mai hospital; Hung Yen Department of Health and Institute of Population, Health and Development (PHAD). Project will be implemented in 5 years from February of 2018 to September of 2022 and divided into 3 periods: the first period lasts from February to September of 2018; the second lasts from October of 2018 to March of 2022 and the third period lasts from April to September of 2022. This 5 year project is funded by the Fogarty International Center – National Institutes of Health (NIH). PHAD is coordinating and managing this research project in Vietnam. It has been a month after receiving the project approval, in AM of Monday, March 12th 2018, Project Launch Workshop was held in Hung Yen Department of Health (DoH). In total 27 participants including the Quitline call center, PHAD, Hung Yen DoH, district health centers and commune health stations attended. Four selected communes in this research project are Bach Sam (My Hao District); Viet Hung (Van Lam District); Tan Viet (Yen My District) and Binh Minh (Khoai Chau District). Aim of this workshop is to introduce project overview, roles of stakeholders and 1st-year activities.
After the workshop opening speech of Mr. Vu Cong Nguyen – Deputy of Institute of Population, Health and Development, on behalf of the Director of Hung Yen Department of Health, Mr. Nguyen Van Tam – Deputy of Health Professional Department, sent their gratitude to the University of Massachusetts Medical School and PHAD for implementing this project in Hung Yen to reduce prevalence of smoking. In addition, he suggested health staff in district health centers and commune health stations to closely work with PHAD to carry out project activities on time.
After that, Mrs. Phan Thu Phuong – Deputy of Respiratory Center, Bach Mai Hospital who manages Bach Mai Quitline presented functions of Quitline. She also thanked to M2Q2 project team for supporting smokers accessing to Quitline in the project.
After coffee break, Mr. Vuong Tuan Anh – Project Coordinator introduced overview of project, roles of stakeholders and 1st-year activities. Ms. Phan Thi Tran Ngoc briefed smoker selection process which will be done in the upcoming years.
During discussion, the M2Q2 project team answered many questions raised health staff in district health centers and commune health stations to clarify 1st year activities. In the end, all participants expressed their willingness to cooperate and contribute to the success of the project implementation in Hung Yen.
The workshop is the initial step of this project in Hung Yen. We expect the project will receive positive feedback from smokers in Hung Yen during implementation.
