On March 23rd, 2021, the representatives of the project “mHealth Messaging to Motivativate Quitine use and Quitting” (M2Q2) – Institute of Population, Health and Development participated in the workshop “Sharing experience about organizing smoking cessation and planning directions for the period 2021-2022” which was held by Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund. The workshop is hosted by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue – Head of the Health Ministry’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment and Director of the Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund, Doctor. Phan Thi Hai – Deputy Director of the Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund and Dr. Nguyen Tuan Lam – Technical Officer, World Health Organization (WHO) Viet Nam. In the workshop, in addition to reports from agencies such as Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund, Nhan dan Gia Dinh Hospital, National Hospital of Traditional Medicine and Institute of Social and Medial Studies (ISMS), there was a presentation of Respiratory Center of Bach Mai Hospital which is a co-partner unit of M2Q2 project. As a result, effective smoking cessation models are implemented in health facilities and communities such as Quitline, Direct consulting services, Consulting services in Community health stations, mHealth… In the workshop conclusion, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue praised the results achieved by health care facilities and encouraged efforts to increase the smoking cessation rate in the future by combining methods: monitoring smokers in public places, communication for behavior change and the use of traditional medicine/nicotine replacement therapy.
Research Project entitled “mHealth Messaging to Motivate Quitline Use and Quitting (M2Q2)” is approved by Vietnam Union of Scientific and Technology Association (VUSTA) on February 12th, 2018. This project is a cooperative program between the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMASS); the Quitline, Respiratory Center, Bach Mai hospital; Hung Yen Department of Health and Institute of Population, Health and Development from 2018 to 2022. Four selected communes in this research project are Bach Sam (My Hao District); Viet Hung (Van Lam District); Tan Viet (Yen My District) and Binh Minh (Khoai Chau District). Institute of Population, Health and Development is the project’s coordinator and manager in Vietnam.
